Branding Photography for a Boise Marketing Agency
I love the Reynolds + Myers team. I’ve done headshots for them for years, and I’ve also worked alongside them to photograph projects for their clients.
Reynolds + Myers is a local marketing agency in Boise. If I could sum up what I love about them, it would be that they’re serious about their work and they care about people.
What I mean is they’re not messing around, or playing games, they’re not focused on what’s trendy or in style, they’re focused on what actually works, and actually meets their clients goals.
They’re also people first, and you can tell that the heart behind all of the marketing work they do is a deep care for people.
When Tawsha, R + M’s chief operating officer reached out about doing a branding photoshoot, I was really excited and honored.
Reynolds + Myers was launching a brand new website and they needed updated headshots and lifestyle around the office/day in the life type photos.
Right up my alley.
Before I bore you with too many words, let me show you some highlights from this shoot:
The Planning process for this photoshoot
Tawsha and I went through the pre-production process and put together a really solid plan that we were able to fully execute within the four walls of their office in Bodo in downtown Boise.
I use Milanote for all of my pre-production work, and I love it, it keeps my clients and I organized and on the same page.
Here’s a screenshot of our production doc on Milanote:
We did try to get ahold of an orange chair like the pre-production doc shows, but we had a hard time finding one and we decided it wouldn’t really show up well with how their headshots were going to be cropped and used on their new website.
The further I’ve gotten into my career, the more planning I do with my clients. I’ve developed a really solid planning process that I walk my clients through.
If you’re going to run a photoshoot that actually meets your clients real needs you have to be strategic, understand how the client is using the images, and letting the shot list, locations, scenes, and wardrobe all reflect this.
For Reynolds + Myers the headshots needed to be vertical to align side by side on their website. But not just standard vertical with the crop straight out of camera, tighter than that. We wanted a black background and lighting that had some depth to it, not just a flatly lit, boring studio portrait. We wanted the background to almost be non existent, so it would seamlessly fade into their new website design.
We wanted a black background, but that wasn’t available at their office, so I brought in my own black backdrop that we used that for the headshots. The black background is actually lighter in color than it appears in these photos, but I photographed it in a way to have it fade to pure black. Like I said above we were going for a non distracting background and I believe we achieved that.
natural light, studio light + creative COLORED light
The lighting style on this photoshoot was like a lot of my photoshoots are, mixed.
A mixture of natural light, studio light, and a third type of light…
Tawsha had a really fun idea to go with a two colored lighting effect on people’s headshots too, I had never actually done this type of lighting, but understood how it works, so I setup gels on a second set of lights, so we could efficiently do each persons headshot first and then a second photo using the blue and orange lighting.
I thought this was a fun effect that I enjoyed using, and of course I loved the efficiency of my setup too that I was able to seamlessly switch my lighting setups while leaving the people in the same spot (these used my same black backdrop).
These certainly have both a unique and cohesive look for headshots for this team.
MARKETING AGENCY TEAM PHOTOS
Then we decided to do also do group team photos, always a great idea when you’ve got your whole team together, as well as some more lifestyle and behind the scenes type photos utilizing different scenes around the Reynolds + Myers office, including their conference room, an individual office and different backgrounds around the office.
Like I said, creating photos that are actually useful for my clients is one of my main concerns, so here’s how the headshots look on Reynolds + Myers new website:
Branding Photography for Boise Businesses
The actual photoshoot went great. I loved connected with the Reynolds + Myers team, they are a hilarious and fun group of people who I always enjoy being around.
Headshots are important, but a branding shoot can go much further than that. We can photograph the people behind the business, the environment they work in, meetings, individual working scenes, and other situations that help give someone a better sense of the business and the people behind it.
And we don't necessarily need to go all over Boise to accomplish that.
The Reynolds + Myers shoot is a great example. Everything was created in one office, but by changing scenes and lighting throughout the shoot, we were able to create a much wider variety of photographs for their new website.
If you're looking for a Boise branding photographer and need fresh photography for your website or business, submit a contact form here. I’d love to hear what you're working on and start a conversation about the photographs we could create for your business.
Reynolds + Myers, thank you so much for trusting me with this project and for all of the projects you trust me on for your clients.
